11 Things to Know About Me

“I don’t know what my life is about and don’t examine it. My life will define itself as I live it.” - Sidney Lumet

  1. Where I’ve been isn’t where I’m heading. I hope you like literary-ish crime fiction. Stay patient. I’m working, I promise. (For rights & inquiries: Contact my agent.)

  2. You can listen to the audio version of my first work of fiction and only poem collection (gratis) as seasons 1 and 2 on the podcast: Slightly Crooked: Good Stories, Told Well.

  3. Or perhaps read my latest book: Aristotle for Novelists. (Perfect for those trying to tell a story on the page, screen, or in life.)

  4. Writing isn’t all I do, one day—I sell medical devices to keep warm. (It’s cold out there.)

  5. Books are a huge part of my life. I devour about 60 a year (but taste test many more.) Memoirs, bios, novels, nom, nom, nom.

  6. I wish more men were readers, so I started Books for Men, a podcast to inspire (more) men to read and bring together men who do. (C’mon, fellas.)

  7. Other hobbies? Of course—golf, gym, yoga, walking (everywhere), family, friends, travel, concerts, plays, movies, docs, shows, podcasts, museums, NY sports, dining out (sneaky cheap finds are the best), playin’ with my dog, hackin’ on the guitar, and listenin’ to music. (See Lyrics I Love.)

  8. What about some favs? Okay, twist my arm—Rocky (the original, and for so many reasons), The Sopranos (the greatest piece of art in the 21st century), Jason Isbell (name a better songwriter-guitar player-vocalist, I’m waiting), and Miles from Nowhere (a novel you’ve probably never read but should.)

  9. Advice? Yeah, I believe less is more and intention is everything. But my best advice? Do the work. Second best, don’t listen to advice. (If you insist, though, here are 47 life lessons.)

  10. Last meal: rigatoni and meatballs. As if there was any doubt. (I often share Sunday dinners on the ‘gram. Stalk if you dare.)

  11. Oh, right, and number 11. I just like odd numbers because I like odd things—imperfect, crooked, edgy, all work for me. Mean doesn’t though, so be kind!
