The Friday DV Freebie #4

Never Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi

What I like best: If you want to learn how to meet and engage people from colleagues to celebrities this is the book for you. At it's core It is more than just a networking book, it is a RELATIONSHIP book. Keith contends that the true difference maker for the highly successful is the power of relationships BUT they didn't always have those relationships. They had to build them! Highlighting giving before receiving as the end all be all. "Real networking is about finding ways to make OTHER people more successful...by giving your time and expertise and sharing them freely, the pie gets bigger for everybody," says Ferrazzi.

At times you he has you wondering if he really does some of things he ACTUALLY suggests! However you quickly realize he is not kidding, ha! He truly embraces vulnerability which is something to absolutely admire.

Best Quote: "Today's most valuable currency is social capital, defined as the information, expertise, trust, and total value that exist in the relationships that you have and social networks to which you belong."

ABC...More like ABR, Always Be Reminding!

In the legendary sales movie Glengarry Glen Ross, Blake (Alec Baldwin) is famous for teaching his young constituents to "always be closing."  Seems like a great idea, right?  Maybe, BUT I'm not crazy about the tension "closing" puts on a relationship so I prescribe to the ALWAYS BE REMINDING method.

Always be reminding means you continually REMIND your customers why they do business with you through your words, actions, and solutions.  They regularly need to know and feel why they're YOUR customer.

It means you consistently REMIND your prospects why they should be doing business with you through your words, actions, and solutions.  It means always be reminding EVERYONE of your character and value(s.)  Don't forget about your loved ones they too need constant reminders of why they LOVE you - they're your support system!

Reassurance is comforting.  Comfort is good for relationships.  Relationships are good for sales.

Happy Selling!

The Friday DV Freebie #3

This weeks DV Freebie is a book I just picked up and finished on a plane flight yesterday.

I Will Teach You To Be Rich by Ramit Sethi

What I like best: I wanted a good quick read that would prove to be a refresher on personal finance. That is exactly what I got. Ramit does a great job teaching personal finance from the GROUND UP.  While being able to discuss fun topics like frugality vs cheap. Citing that frugality, quite simply, is about choosing the things you love enough to spend extravagantly on and then cutting costs mercilessly on the things you don’t love. While cheap is just cheap. Love it. Also he proves that simply getting started is the single biggest factor in being rich. Very actionable read!

6 Books That Impacted Jay Z

In last weeks DV's Freebie I mentioned that the book Purple Cow by Seth Godin was 1 of 6 books Hova himself touted as being most IMPACTFUL to his life. Since that post I've had some of you reach out to me asking, what are the other books?? So here you go!

Jay Z's Bookshelf

If you're not a reader (yet) don't worry! I was just like you UNTIL I found the right book to bridge me. Keep searching. You won't regret it. Now I love reading! In fact I now average a book a week. Hopefully this helps you understand the importance I place on reading. Reading expedites the learning curve, advocates thought, and promotes action!

Read. Learn. Grow.

The Rock says....This the BEST Way to Problem Solve

Do you ever feel like you over complicated a situation? Or maybe clouded your intentions by trying to do more than necessary? I do it ALL the time. Simply doing what's expected of you EXTREMELY well is typically the best way to solve the problem and present the solution.

"Know your role and shut your mouth, jabroni!"

If you watched WWE back in the late 90's you probably remember this famous go-to line by superstar Dwayne Johnson, The Rock. Next time you start talking circles around a problem and attempt to do more than necessary look for that raised eyebrow in the back of your mind, remember The Rock  - keep it simple!

Set rules. Know your role. Perform impeccably.

5 Ways to Enjoy Monday Funday

Depressed the weekend is over? I get it, I get it. You've got the holiday hangover and let me guess this isn't just a problem after the holidays - it happens EVERY Monday. Good news is your not alone, bad news is your NEVER going to change the order of the days of the week. Here's my strategy to tackle Monday's:

  1. Schedule Monday's to do list on Friday NOT Sunday (reduces stress and anxiety on Sundays.)

  2. Give yourself an hour or two on Saturday and/or Sunday AM to handle admin work (these items won't be on your agenda Monday, gives you a sense of accomplishment, and allows you to do step 3 much easier.)

  3. Do the ONE thing that's going to provide you the most satisfaction FIRST (i.e. - gym session, follow up with favorite customer, etc. - builds early Monday momentum.)

  4. Make an EXTRA effort to be positive (do this with INTENTION.)

  5. Get good nights sleep (I love indulging on Sundays but the trick is shutting it down early.)

Focus on what you CAN change!
